எருவாய் கருவாய்

O Lord Muruga,

From the seed in the womb, I took form;
I became this body, like a crop growing in the field.

One becomes another, and another becomes one;
This endless chain of births and attachments continues like a madness.

Becoming one mother, then another mother,
Becoming countless millions of forms,
May I not continue to perish, becoming useless and wasted.

At least once, O Muruga, O Supreme One, O Kumara,
Please come and bless me, saying, “I shall protect this soul.”

O Muruga, You are the One who grants Your twin feet
To rest upon the heads of Your devotees.

O Spear-wielding Lord, who cast Your Vel upon the mighty chest of the ancient demon Sura,
when sages and devas pleaded for justice.

O Divine Child, whose greatness even Vishnu and Brahma do not know,
O beloved nephew of Vishnu,

O Lord who dwells in Tiruvizhiyil,
surrounded by beautiful groves and prosperous ancient fort walls,
please bless me.

The poet prays to Lord Muruga to save him from the endless cycle of birth and death. He reflects on how the soul repeatedly takes different forms through countless births, becoming trapped in worldly attachments. He begs Muruga, the supreme protector and destroyer of evil, to grant His divine feet and liberate him from this cycle.
