நமச்சிவாய வாழ்க நாதன் தாள் வாழ்க
ஞானசம்பந்தன் தாள் நல்கி வாழ்க
Praise to Namasivaya! Praise to the feet of the Lord! May the feet of the Guru who granted grace always be honoured!

இமைப்பொழுதும் என் நெஞ்சில் நீங்காதான் தாள் வாழ்க
கோகழி ஆண்ட குருமணி தன் தாள் வாழ்க
Praise to the feet of the one who never leaves my heart even for an instant! Praise to the jewel-Guru who ruled Kokali!

ஆகமம் ஆகி நின்று அண்ணிப்பான் தாள் வாழ்க
ஏகன் அநேகன் இறைவன் அடி வாழ்க
Praise to the feet of the one who stands as the sacred texts themselves! Long live the feet of the Lord who is both one and many!

வேகம் கெடுத்தாண்ட வேந்தன் அடி வெல்க
பிறப்பறுக்கும் பிஞ்ஞகன் தன் பெய்கழல் வெல்க
May the feet of the King who calmed my restless mind prevail! May the sacred anklets of the skull-wearer who severs the cycle of birth prevail!

புறந்தார்க்குச் சேயோன் தன் பூங்கழல் வெல்க
கரங்குவிவார் உள்மகிழும் கோன் கழல் வெல்க
May the flower-feet of the one who is far to outsiders but close to devotees prevail! May the feet of the Lord who rejoices in the folded hands of his devotees prevail!

திருவெம்பாவை 1
ஓம்பொழுது உய்யக்கொள்வான் பிறந்தான் மகிழ்க என்று
ஆம்பல்அம் கண்ணி அரிவையர் ஆர்ப்பரிக்கும்
ஏம்பல்உடையார் இதுவோர் படிறு என்னார்
தீம்பால் பருகிய செவ்வாயர் சேர்ந்து உரைப்பர்
பாம்புஆட்டும் எந்தை பரஞ்சுடர் ஈது அல்லோம்
ஆம்பட்ட வன்றோ அவர் வாயில் ஆர்க்கின்றோம்
காம்பு ஆட்டும் கொல்லி கலந்துடன் வாழ்வோமே
The young women with lotus eyes cry out in celebration — 'He who saves souls was born, rejoice!' Those who hear them do not question this — those with sweet mouths red as berries come together and speak. Our Lord who holds the dancing serpent, the Supreme Light — we are not apart from him. It is fitting that we cry out at his gates — let us live together in the mountains swaying with bamboo.

கூடியிருந்து குளிர்நீர் குடைந்தாடி
ஓதி உணர்ந்து உடல் உள்ளொடு ஒன்றி நம்
நாதன் பணி செய்து நன்புலன் ஆகவே
ஏதமில் சீர் எம்பிரான் உடன் வாழ்வோமே
Gathering together, bathing in cool water, chanting and understanding, uniting body and soul — serving our Lord, becoming truly pure in all our senses — let us live forever with our flawless glorious Lord.

Thiruvasagam — the Sacred Utterance — is a collection of 51 hymns composed by the 9th century CE saint-poet Manikkavasagar. It forms the 8th book of the 12 Thirumurai, the sacred canon of Tamil Shaivism. No other Tamil text comes close to its raw emotional intensity of devotion.
Manikkavasagar was a minister to the Pandya king who encountered Shiva in human form at Thiruperundurai. He surrendered completely, spending the king's treasury on temple worship. Imprisoned and tormented, he composed these hymns while Shiva miraculously cleared his name and transformed horses to gold.
மாணிக்கவாசகர் பாண்டிய மன்னரின் அமைச்சராக இருந்தார். திருப்பெருந்துறையில் சிவபெருமானை குருவடிவில் சந்தித்தார். அரச கஜானாவை கோயில் வழிபாட்டிற்கு செலவிட்டு, சிறையிலடைக்கப்பட்டும், சிவபெருமானே அற்புதமாக குதிரைகளை தங்கமாக்கி தண்டனையிலிருந்து காப்பாற்றினார். இந்த ஆன்மிக அனுபவத்திலிருந்தே திருவாசகம் பிறந்தது.
