O Lord Murugan, grant me the wisdom to keep Your sacred feet, the divine spear, the peacock and the rooster emblem always in my thoughts.
With devotion, I offer abundant food before You: the three sacred fruits, appam, milk, honey, long twisted sweets, sugarcane, laddus, fine rice, lentils, flattened rice, sesame, puffed rice, sweet varieties of bananas and tender coconut water.
With a joyful heart, I worship the elephant-faced Lord Ganesha, who has a single tusk and a great curved trunk. I go around Him reverently, adorn Him with flowers, recite hymns of praise, perform thoppukaranam by holding my ears, tap my forehead in humility, and worship His golden, lotus-like feet. I shall never forget this sacred worship.
Then the hymn describes the fierce battlefield. Rhythmic sounds echo everywhere as flies swarm over streams of blood. Flesh, bile, fat, intestines and brains lie scattered across the ground.
Severed bodies and exposed entrails fill the battlefield, while serpents move among them. Drums and other instruments thunder with powerful beats.
Small drums roar like thunder, and the tavil resounds with rapid, forceful rhythms.
Spirits and fierce supernatural beings beat their hand-drums, while terrifying Bhairavi-like goddesses dance around the battlefield.
O glorious Lord Murugan, You destroyed the hostile demons who opposed You, offered them as a sacrifice in battle, protected the worlds and bestowed Your grace. Please bless me.
