Women speak enticing words, comparing their eyes to spears, fish, graceful dancers, lightning, and whirling circles. With their seductive charm and clever expressions, they captivate the minds of men.

Drawn by desire, I melt in their embrace and become deeply attached to sensual pleasures. My life is wasted in endless longing and suffering.

I wander helplessly, and when the messengers of Yama come, binding me tightly and dragging me away to hell, will I still not attain Your fragrant, sacred feet, which bestow liberation and reveal the eternal truth?

O Lord who, like thunder, shook the mighty king of the demons (Ravana), cutting off his twenty powerful arms and his many golden heads with blazing arrows from the bow.

O Lord of Indra's heavenly realm, who holds in Your hand the beautiful green parrot-like maiden (Valli), the innocent tribal princess of charming beauty.

O Hero who struck down the fierce Surapadman, causing mountains to shatter, oceans to roar, and mighty peaks to crumble; whose terrifying battle made the universe tremble.

O Great Lord, who split the gem-studded crown of the demon, while fierce spirits and Bhairavas danced in triumph amidst the crashing sounds of battle, as You pierced and destroyed the enemy with Your divine spear.

Overall meaning:
The poet laments how attachment to worldly pleasures and sensual desires leads to misery and the fear of hell. He prays to Lord Murugan to grant him refuge at His divine feet, bestowing liberation (moksha) and eternal spiritual wisdom. The latter part glorifies Murugan's supreme power and victories over evil forces, affirming Him as the compassionate savior who alone can free devotees from the cycle of birth and death.
