You are the beloved of Valli, the daughter of the hunter tribe; salutations to You.
You are praised by the wise and learned sages; salutations to You.

You are the very form of the Vedic mantras; salutations to You.
You are the supreme teacher of wisdom; salutations to You.
Your feet are adorned with heroic anklets; salutations to You, O beautiful One.

O Vel-bearing Lord, who shines with a divine body, salutations to You.
You are the life and joy of the celestial maiden Deivayanai; salutations to You.
O victorious and mighty Vishaka (Muruga), please bless me.

You are the One who destroyed the sinful demon Surapadman in battle,
wielding the sharp and powerful spear (Vel).
You are the compassionate Lord who granted victory and protection to the devas (celestial beings).

You are connected with Lord Shiva, whose matted hair bears the crescent moon,
who holds the trident, and who is the source of divine music.
You are the radiant son of Shiva, whose strong shoulders and divine power shine like light.

You are the son of the ancient Lord Shankara and Mother Parvati,
the beautiful Ambika, Manonmani, Ayisundari, and the compassionate divine Mother Abhirami.

O Lord who resides at Avinankudi (Palani),
surrounded by beautiful groves and temples,
worshipped with devotion by the gods and celestial beings —
O great Lord Muruga, please shower Your grace upon me.
