Afflicted by the turmoil of desire, my mind becomes disturbed and confused. I lose all wisdom, my life falls into misery, and I am filled with countless shortcomings because of my attachment to worldly women.
Drawn by their affectionate words, captivated by their beauty and charming arts, entangled in their embraces, and enslaved by the wealth and pleasures they offer, may I not continue to wander in such delusion.
Instead, grant me the privilege of reaching Your sacred feet. Bless me with steadfast devotion to Your service, enrich me with the ability to sing refined and beautiful Tamil in praise of You, and bestow upon me the wisdom and grace to compose hymns worthy of Your glory.
O Lord, who rejoiced in the forest with the noble tribal maiden Valli, delighting in her love and allowing Your heart to melt in affection!
O mighty One, who shattered the pride of the fierce demon Surapadman, confounded him in battle, destroyed his strength, and brought his arrogance to an end!
O Hero, who severed the demon's head, crushed his powerful body, split the mountain-like form he assumed, and then entered the sacred abode of Tiruchendur in triumph!
O Lord of Tiruchirappalli (or the Lord praised in Tiruchitrambalam), whose greatness is extolled by devotees through melodious songs, kindly shower Your compassionate grace upon me so that I may always sing Your praise and remain devoted to Your holy feet.
