O Lord, whose sacred feet are beyond the reach of the Vedas,
I have not studied the true scriptures, and my mind remains different from the path of wisdom.
I do not sing of You, O Lord who holds the flawless Vel (spear),
nor do I praise Your greatness; my shoulders are adorned with fragrant garlands and ornaments.
I do not wave incense, nor do I speak Your holy name,
nor do I meditate upon Your divine feet that transcend the Vedas.
I, a lowly being, have passed my days without falling at Your feet;
is it right that my precious life should go to waste in vain?
O Beloved One, Lord of the celestials, Supreme Master,
O Protector who resides in the forest and blessed companion of Valli!
O One who comes to those who seek You, O Lord who defeated Surapadman,
O One who dwells in the vast grove surrounded by dark clouds like the wish-fulfilling Kalpaka forest!
O Radiant One, O Compassionate Lord, O Supreme Ruler,
O Great One who grants the highest life in the sacred city of Oor (Uraiyur)!
O Divine Child, O Vel-bearer, O Flower-like One, O King,
O God above all gods, O Great Lord Murugan!
