O Lord Murugan,
Do not let my mind wander in ignorance, chasing worldly illusions and meaningless pursuits.
Remove the darkness within me and bless me with the light of true awareness, like the full moon shining with radiant brilliance.
Let me not roam aimlessly like a tree standing in the street, speaking uselessly with everyone and engaging in worthless activities.
O six-faced Lord, whose mighty shoulders are adorned by the presence of Goddess Lakshmi, grant me the grace to have your divine vision.
O younger brother of Lord Ganesha, who is praised in ancient verses and whose great belly is fondly celebrated, you who accept offerings of fruits, roasted grains, pulses, and various sweet foods — bless me.
O Kumareesa, who grants grace to devotees, causing their hearts to melt with devotion and removing their suffering and illnesses,

O Lord of the sacred hill, where elephants walk with their mates and where groups of celestial beings gather,

In essence, the hymn is a prayer asking Lord Murugan to remove ignorance, meaningless desires, and suffering, and to grant spiritual wisdom, devotion, and the blessing of seeing His divine form.
