Those who are filled with anger come to ruin.
Those who harbor enmity perish.
Those who commit cruel deeds lose even their very lives because of anger.
Those who mock, and those who slander others,
do not realize that the sacred Thiruppugazh is like blazing fire—it burns away their faults and evil.
O Lord! Grant me the blessed opportunity to sing Your perfect glory,
which fulfills every righteous thought,
melts even the hardest heart with devotion,
destroys the darkness of ignorance,
cuts off the cycle of birth and rebirth,
burns even fire itself,
and shatters mountains of obstacles.
As the great war drums thunder with sounds like
"thanath-thana thanath-tham, thimith-thimi thimith-thim,
thaguth-thagu thaguth-tham,"
and the battlefield echoes with their mighty roar,
O Radiant Lord with the spear,
who smiled and reduced to ashes the enraged demons and the mighty mountain-like forces they relied upon,
O Lord of Thiruthani,
who joyfully dwells with Valli, the maiden of the tribal (Kuravar) clan,
whose waist is as slender as a millet stalk—
please bless me with the grace to praise Your boundless glory.
