Taking birth as an embryo, growing gradually with age,
learning many arts and worldly skills because of that,
I became attached to women with dark, beautiful hair;
my chest was scarred by their footsteps, and I suffered greatly,
filled with worries and sorrow.
Without even thinking daily of the sacred name “Hara Hara Siva,”
without knowing the righteous paths of the six religious traditions,
Will I continue to perish shamelessly,
standing at the doorsteps of the houses of those who serve food,
begging for sustenance every day?
O Lord Muruga, who is the beloved nephew of the great Lord Vishnu,
who rests upon the serpent couch,
who joyfully measured and pervaded the whole universe,
O son of supreme grace, who came to the holy town of Pukali,
as the illustrious one praised by both noble lineages,
the radiant lamp of the clans, the great king among poets,
O Kumaresa, who grew through the grace of the Supreme Lord,
who once went as a messenger to the house of Paravai,
O great Lord of Palani,
who destroyed the armies of the enemy demons,
freed the imprisoned devas, and stood gloriously upon Palani Hill.
