Since rain sustains the world by falling from the sky, rain is to be understood as nectar (ambrosia).
Rain is called 'amizhtham' (nectar/ambrosia) — the food of immortality. This elevates rain from a natural phenomenon to a sacred gift. Without rain there is no food, no life, no civilization. Valluvar sees ecology and spirituality as inseparable — the divine manifests most practically as rain.
