📖 அதிகார விளக்கம்
“புகழ்” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “வசிக்கும் குதிரை ஒருத்தி வாயில் மனத்தின் திண்மை வேண்டும்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

ஈகை கொண்டு வாழ்வது ஒன்று.
'Long live' is one word; its fruit is living through giving.

தாமும் தமர்ரும் உயரும் புகழ்க்கு
வீமம் கொடுக்கும் மழை.
Fame that elevates both oneself and one's people comes like rain that gives abundantly.

புகழ்ப் புணர்வு இல்லார் உலகில் பிழைத்தோர்
ஒழுக்கம் இலார் ஒப்பர்.
Those without the union of fame and those who survive in the world without conduct are equal.

வளமை யுடையார்க்கு வாழ்க்கை ஒன்று உண்டோ
ஒளிமையில் லாரோடு ஒப்பர்.
Is there life for the wealthy who are without brightness (of character)? They equal those without luminosity.

பரியது கொல்லோ வெளியது கொல்லோ
திரிந்த மனத்தார்க்கு புகழ்.
Is fame large or small — for those whose minds have turned (to virtue)?

இல்லாளை ஒழிந்தார் இசை பரவ
செல்லாதார்க்கும் புகழ் தேவ.
Even those who haven't gone beyond the household — fame spreads through the virtuous wife.
குறள் 240
வாழ்க என்பதும் வாழ்க்கை நல்லதும்
ஈகை ஒன்றே கிளர்ந்தொளிரும்.
'May you live' and 'a good life' — only liberality truly shines and illuminates.
