“செங்கோன்மை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “ஓர்ந்துகண் ணோடாது இறைபுரிந்து யார்மாட்டும்nதேர்ந்துசெய் வஃதே முறை.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

It is not the spear that gives victory; it is the king’s sceptre,nthe one that never tilts unjustly.

முறைகாக்கும் முட்டாச் செயின்.
A king protects all the world; he is protectednby the justice that he dispenses resolutely.

எண்பதத்தான் ஓரா முறைசெய்யா மன்னவன்
தண்பதத்தான் தானே கெடும்.
A king who isn’t readily accessible and doesn’t rule justly,nwill be ruined by his own lowly deeds.

குடிபுறங் காத்தோம்பிக் குற்றம் கடிதல்
வடுவன்று வேந்தன் தொழில்.
To punish a crime, in order to protect and nurture one’s subjects,nis not a blot on the king but his duty.

கொலையிற் கொடியாரை வேந்தொறுத்தல் பைங்கூழ்
களைகட் டதனொடு நேர்.
