“வாய்மை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “வாய்மை எனப்படுவது யாதெனின் யாதொன்றும்nதீமை இலாத சொலல்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

தானஞ்செய் வாரின் தலை.
One who tells the truth, with all his heart, is ahead of thosenwho do penance and charity.

Not lying, if practiced unfailingly, makes it worthwhilento refrain from not doing the righteous deeds.

வாய்மையால் காணப் படும்.
External cleanliness is brought about by water;ninner purity is evident in truthfulness.

All light is not light; for noble scholars,ntruthfulness is the true light of enlightenment.
