“வெஃகாமை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “வேண்டாமை அன்ன விழுமியது ஆகும் ஊண்டா உலகில் ஒருவற்கு.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

அற்றம் மறைக்கும் பெருமை சிறுமை
ஆங்கு அறியத்தக்கது என்று.
Greatness covers one's flaws; smallness reveals them immediately — both are worth knowing together.
குறள் 173
தீயவை தீய பயக்கும் திருவினும்
தீயவை தீயார்க்கு அரண்.
Evil deeds produce evil results; even for the prosperous, evil deeds become a fortress against them.
குறள் 174
சுழன்றும் ஏர்ப்பின்னது உலகம் அதனால்
உழந்தும் உழவே தலை.
Though the world revolves, it turns after the plough; therefore, even in distress, farming is the highest.
குறள் 175
ஈட்டம் இவறி இயற்கை உடையார்கண்
ஏட்டம் எதிர்ப்பட்டான் இல்.
There is no one who has faced adversity when they are without greed and covetousness by nature.
குறள் 176
அச்சம் உடையான் அரிதென்பர் ஆகுமேல்
அச்சமே இல்லாத செவ்வி.
For one with fear, it is said to be difficult; for one without fear, the state of non-covetousness becomes natural.

படியுடையாருடன் இன்பமுண்டாம் என்றால்
மடியுடையாருடன் மாசுண்டாம்.
With the generous there is joy; with the slothful (covetous) there is contamination.
குறள் 178
வேட்கை வெஃகும் ஒருவர்க்கு உய்யினும்
ஈட்டமே ஒட்டுவது ஒன்று.
For the one who desires and covets, even salvation comes only with accumulation — but accumulation is the one thing that clings.
குறள் 179
இறந்த பொருட்டால் கெடும் செல்வம் நிற்குமே
திறந்த வழி செல்லும் ஆற்றல்.
Wealth gained through wrong means will perish; the strength to walk the open (righteous) path will endure.
குறள் 180
வேண்டற்க வெஃகி அவர் பொருளை வேண்டியக்கால்
ஆண்டிற்கும் ஆதும் ஒருவன்.
Do not covet another's possessions; when one covets, it ruins even in one's own time (lifetime).
