“அவையஞ்சாமை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “வகையறிந்து வல்லவை வாய்சோரார் சொல்லின்nதொகையறிந்த தூய்மை யவர்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

கற்றாருள் கற்றார் எனப்படுவர் கற்றார்முன்
கற்ற செலச்சொல்லு வார்.
They are known the most learned amongst the learned,nthose who can express their learnings persuasively before a learned audience.

பகையகத்துச் சாவார் எளியர் அரியர்
அவையகத்து அஞ்சா தவர்.
Simple people, ready to die at the warfront, abound;nthose who fearlessly address an audience are a rare breed.

மிக்காருள் மிக்க கொளல்.

அஞ்சு மவன்கற்ற நூல்.
A sharp sword in the hands of a coward before foes,nis the scholarship of him who fears a forum.

பல்லவை கற்றும் பயமிலரே நல்லவையுள்
நன்கு செலச்சொல்லா தார்.
They may be of great learning but can serve no purposenif they shy away from speaking compellingly to a good audience.

கல்லா தவரின் கடையென்ப கற்றறிந்தும்
நல்லா ரவையஞ்சு வார்.
Though well learned, they’re considered worse than the ignorant,nthose who fear an assembly of good people.

Out of stage-fright, those who can’t articulatentheir learnings well, maybe alive but are as good as lifeless.
