“ஊக்கமுடைமை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “உடையர் எனப்படுவது ஊக்கம் அஃ தில்லார்nஉடையது உடையரோ மற்று.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

The zealous won’t flinch in the face of trouble;nthe elephant, even if buried under a barrage of arrows, never relents.

உள்ளம் இலாதவர் எய்தார் உலகத்து
வள்ளியம் என்னுஞ் செருக்கு.
Those without zeal, will never attainnthe pride of being hailed as generous.

பரியது கூர்ங்கோட்டது ஆயினும் யானை
வெருஉம் புலிதாக் குறின்.
It is huge; it has sharp tusks; yet, the tuskernis frightened when the tiger attacks.
