“தெரிந்துதெளிதல்” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “அறம்பொருள் இன்பம் உயிரச்சம் நான்கின்nதிறந்தெரிந்து தேறப் படும்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

அறம்பொருள் இன்பம் உயிரச்சம் நான்கின்
திறந்தெரிந்து தேறப் படும்.
Assess the attitude of a person on these four aspects before choosing him:nrighteousness, money, lust and fear for life.

குடிப்பிறந்து குற்றத்தின் நீங்கி வடுப்பரியும்
நாணுடையான் சுட்டே தெளிவு.
Accept only a person who is of good birth, is clear of flaws,nhas fear for infamy and shame.

அரியகற்று ஆசற்றார் கண்ணும் தெரியுங்கால்
இன்மை அரிதே வெளிறு.
Even a person who is known to be learned and faultless,nif assessed well, will rarely be free of flaws and ignorance.

குணம்நாடிக் குற்றமும் நாடி அவற்றுள்
மிகைநாடி மிக்க கொளல்.
Weigh the virtues and vices, discern which is more,nand thus decide.

பெருமைக்கும் ஏனைச் சிறுமைக்கும் தத்தம்
கருமமே கட்டளைக் கல்.
The touchstone for greatness or unworthinessnis one’s own deeds.

அற்றாரைத் தேறுதல் ஓம்புக மற்றவர்
பற்றிலர் நாணார் பழி.
Choose not those who are unrighteous :nwith nothing to bind them, they won’t dread disgrace.
குறள் 507
காதன்மை கந்தா அறிவறியார்த் தேறுதல்
பேதைமை எல்லாந் தரும்.
Out of affection, choosing without properly assessing,nwill result in folly.
குறள் 508
தேரான் பிறனைத் தெளிந்தான் வழிமுறை
தீரா இடும்பை தரும்.
One who accepts without assessing,nwill invite harm that will last for generations.

தே றற்க யாரையும் தேராது தேர்ந்தபின்
தேறுக தேறும் பொருள்.
Choose not anyone without assessment;nonce chosen, trust the person to deliver on the assigned tasks.

தேரான் தெளிவும் தெளிந்தான்கண் ஐயுறவும்
தீரா இடும்பை தரும்.
Selecting without assessing, and doubting after selecting,nwill ensure enduring distress.
