“மெய்யுணர்தல்” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “பொருளல்ல வற்றைப் பொருளென்று உணரும்nமருளானாம் மாணாப் பிறப்பு.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

சார்தரா சார்தரு நோய்.
To understand what to desire, and to give up other desires,ndecimates the distress caused by those desires.

நாமம் கெடக்கெடும் நோய்.
