“துறவு” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “யாதனின் யாதனின் நீங்கியான் நோதல்nஅதனின் அதனின் இலன்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

பற்றி விடாஅ இடும்பைகள் பற்றினைப்

Miseries will not nearnthose who desist from desire.

வலைப்பட்டார் மற்றை யவர்.
Those who renounce completely, surge ahead;nothers get enticed and end up entangled in a web.

பற்றற்ற கண்ணே பிறப்பறுக்கும் மற்று
நிலையாமை காணப் படும்.
Only when all attachments are severed, the cycle of life and death is broken;nanything short of it is transient.
