“கொல்லாமை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “அறவினை யாதெனின் கொல்லாமை கோறல்nபிறவினை எல்லாந் தரும்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

Death dares not trample on the life of one who abidesnby the principle of not killing any life.

இன்னுயிர் நீக்கும் வினை.
Even if one were to sacrifice one’s own life, do notncommit the act of taking another life.

கொன்றாகும் ஆக்கங் கடை.
Even if great wealth leads to great benefits, great men loathenwealth obtained by sacrifice of lives.

புன்மை தெரிவா ரகத்து.
For those who can see the folly of it, the savage imbecilesnin any profession involving killing are doing a despicable job.
