“ஒப்புரவறிதல்” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. அறத்துப்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் தனிமனித ஒழுக்கம், குடும்பநெறி, கருணை, மனத் தூய்மை போன்ற அறவாழ்வின் அடிப்படையை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “ஒத்த தறிவான் உயிர்வாழ்வான் மற்றவன் செத்தாருள் வைக்கப் படும்.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

உழைப்பினால் வாழ்வாரை உள்ளத்தால் ஓம்பும்
மழைவரும் என்பது அறிவு.
Knowing that rain will come (i.e., sustenance will follow) — those who protect the working class in their hearts show wisdom.

ஒட்டார் பழியும் உவந்தாரின் நன்றாகும்
விட்டார் நல்லவை போல்.
The disgrace of opponents becomes as good as the praise of friends — (for the philanthropist) like the good things given away.

பரிந்தோம்பிப் பற்றற்றார் நெஞ்சத்து அகலா
திரிந்தா ருள்ளும் திரிவு.
In the hearts of those who are compassionately protective without attachment — even among the changed, there is no change (in their care).

சாதலின் இன்னாத தில்லை இனிதே
தான்பிறர்க்கு உதவாத வாழ்வு.
There is nothing more painful than death — yet a life that doesn't help others is more pleasant (sic: Valluvar means it's worse than death).

ஒப்புரவிற்கு ஒவ்வா ஒழுகினார்க்கு எஞ்ஞான்றும்
ஒப்பரவு இல்லென்பர் துணை.
For those who do not live according to philanthropy, their support-system will always be absent.

ஒப்புரவாள் வாழ்வார் உயர்ந்தார் தாழ்ந்தவர்
மிக்கார் இலா வழியகத்து.
Those who live by philanthropy are elevated; those without it are diminished — on the path without the excellent.

மழைதிளைக்கும் மாலை வான் அமுதம் உண்பார்
யார் அறிவர் ஒப்புரவு இல்லார்.
Who knows the joy of heaven's nectar at the rain-drenched evening — those without philanthropy don't know.
குறள் 219
நண்பினால் ஒண்ணா ஒழுக்கம் அன்பர்தம்
தண்பொருளால் தாழ்வு உறலின்.
Conduct that cannot be achieved through friendship — the beloved's own resources falling short (teaching philanthropy).

ஒப்புரவில்லார்க்கு உதவல் ஒரு நாள்
துப்பாரைத் தும்பி தொடர்ந்தற்று.
Helping those without philanthropy even for one day is like a bee following a flower without nectar.
