📖 அதிகார விளக்கம்
“இரவு” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “இரக்க இரத்தக்கார்க் காணின் கரப்பின்nஅவர்பழி தம்பழி அன்று.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

இரப்புமோ ரேஎர் உடைத்து.
With ungrudging hearts, they view charity as a dutynTo stand before them and beg – there’s a beauty!

இரத்தலும் ஈதலே போலும் கரத்தல்
கனவிலும் தேற்றாதார் மாட்டு.
They know not withholding even in their dreamsnSame as giving it seems, asking them for alms.

கரப்பிலார் வையகத்து உண்மையால் கண்ணின்று
இரப்பவர் மேற்கொள் வது.
That the world has them who give and nothing concealnIs why others appear before them and for alms appeal.

கரப்பிடும்பை யில்லாரைக் காணின் நிரப்பிடும்பை
எல்லாம் ஒருங்கு கெடும்.
When we see those without the folly of concealingnGone are all the ills of having nothing.

இகழ்ந்தெள்ளாது ஈவாரைக் காணின் மகிழ்ந்துள்ளம்
உள்ளுள் உவப்பது உடைத்து.
Seeing givers who do not mock and deridenThe heart delights and rejoices deep inside.

இரப்பாரை இல்லாயின் ஈர்ங்கண்மா ஞாலம்
மரப்பாவை சென்றுவந் தற்று.
If there be no mendicants, this vast moist worldnWill resemble wooden puppets that come and go.

ஈவார்கண் என்னுண்டாம் தோற்றம் இரந்துகோள்
மேவார் இலாஅக் கடை.
Ah, what is there to brag about those who givenIf there be none to seek and gladly receive.

இரப்பான் வெகுளாமை வேண்டும் நிரப்பிடும்பை
தானேயும் சாலும் கரி.
The denied mendicant should never feel indignantnThe pain of poverty is proof enough of its worth.
