பாம்பாட்டி சித்தர், தென்னகத்தின் சித்தர் மரபில் தனித்துவமான ஒருவர். அவர் தன் பாடல்களில் பாம்பை ஒரு உருவகமாகப் பயன்படுத்தி, குண்டலினி யோகத்தின் ஆழமான தத்துவங்களை எளிய மக்களுக்கும் புரியும்படி பாடினார். 'ஆடும் பாம்பே ஆடும்' என்ற அவரது பாடல் தொடர், இன்றும் தமிழக கிராமங்களில் பாடப்படுகிறது.
அவரது பாடல்களில் பாம்பு என்பது குண்டலினி சக்தியைக் குறிக்கிறது — மூலாதாரத்தில் சுருண்டு கிடக்கும் ஆன்மீக சக்தி, சாதனையின் மூலம் விழித்தெழுந்து, ஆறு ஆதாரங்களையும் கடந்து, தலையில் உள்ள சகஸ்ரார சக்கரத்தை அடைகிறது. இந்த எளிய நாட்டுப்புற பாணியில், மிக ஆழமான யோக தத்துவத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்.
பாம்பாட்டி சித்தரின் பாடல்கள் வெறும் ஆன்மீகம் மட்டுமல்ல — அவை மனித வாழ்வின் நிலையாமை, ஆணவத்தின் அபாயம், எளிமையின் சிறப்பு போன்ற வாழ்க்கைப் பாடங்களையும் கற்பிக்கின்றன. அவரது மொழி எளிமையானது என்றாலும், அதன் ஆழம் இன்றளவும் ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்களையும், சாதகர்களையும் ஈர்க்கிறது.
Pambatti Siddhar holds a unique place in the South Indian Siddhar tradition. Using the metaphor of a dancing serpent, he composed verses that conveyed the deep philosophy of Kundalini yoga in language simple enough for ordinary people to grasp. His refrain, 'Aadum Pambe Aadu' — 'Dance, O Dancing Serpent' — is still sung in villages across Tamil Nadu today.
In his verses, the serpent represents the Kundalini Shakti — the spiritual energy coiled at the base of the spine, which through dedicated practice awakens, rises through the six energy centres, and reaches the crown chakra, the Sahasrara. Through this simple folk-song style, he conveyed profoundly sophisticated yogic philosophy.
Pambatti Siddhar's songs are not purely spiritual — they also teach life lessons about the impermanence of human existence, the danger of ego, and the value of simplicity. Though his language is plain, the depth of his teaching continues to draw scholars and spiritual practitioners alike to this day.
