“புல்லறிவாண்மை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “அறிவின்மை இன்மையுள் இன்மை பிறிதின்மைnஇன்மையா வையா துலகு.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

அறிவிலார் தாந்தம்மைப் பீழிக்கும் பீழை

வெண்மை எனப்படுவ தியாதெனின் ஒண்மை
உடையம்யாம் என்னும் செருக்கு.

கல்லாத மேற்கொண் டொழுகல் கசடற
வல்லதூஉம் ஐயம் தரும்.

அற்றம் மறைத்தலோ புல்லறிவு தம்வயின்
குற்றம் மறையா வழி.

அருமறை சோரும் அறிவிலான் செய்யும்
பெருமிறை தானே தனக்கு.
When a precious teaching is imparted to a simpleton,nby not grasping it, they self-inflict immense harm.

ஏவவும் செய்கலான் தான்தேறான் அவ்வுயிர்
போஒம் அளவுமோர் நோய்.
He neither obeys others nor reasons out himself –nhe is an ailment till he is alive.

காணாதான் காட்டுவான் தான்காணான் காணாதான்
கண்டானாம் தான்கண்ட வாறு.
He who shows him who can’t see, himself can’t see;nhe who can’t see sees only what he sees.

உலகத்தார் உண்டென்பது இல்லென்பான் வையத்து
அலகையா வைக்கப் படும்.
What the (wise of the) world says exists, he denies;nhe shall be deemed a ghost in this world.
