“வெருவந்தசெய்யாமை” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “தக்காங்கு நாடித் தலைச்செல்லா வண்ணத்தால்nஒத்தாங்கு ஒறுப்பது வேந்து.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

கடிதோச்சி மெல்ல எறிக நெடிதாக்கம்
நீங்காமை வேண்டு பவர்.
Raise the sceptre swift and stern, but land it softly,nthose who wish never to lose what they possess.

வெருவந்த செய்தொழுகும் வெங்கோல னாயின்
ஒருவந்தம் ஒல்லைக் கெடும்.
A king will be isolated and will face rapid ruin,nif he becomes a tyrant indulging in terrifying deeds.

இறைகடியன் என்றுரைக்கும் இன்னாச்சொல் வேந்தன்
உறைகடுகி ஒல்லைக் கெடும்.
“My king – he is a tyrant” : such a denouncementnis certain to hasten a king’s downfall.

அருஞ்செவ்வி இன்னா முகத்தான் பெருஞ்செல்வம்
பேஎய்கண் டன்னது உடைத்து.
Inaccessible and has a harsh countenance – his huge wealthnresembles a treasure protected by demons.

கடுஞ்சொல்லன் கண்ணிலன் ஆயின் நெடுஞ்செல்வம்
நீடின்றி ஆங்கே கெடும்.
If he is of harsh words, and has no compassion,nhis extensive wealth will become extinct soon.

கடுமொழியும் கையிகந்த தண்டமும் வேந்தன்
அடுமுரண் தேய்க்கும் அரம்.
Harsh words and excessive punishments form the sawnthat files away the king’s military might.

இனத்தாற்றி எண்ணாத வேந்தன் சினத்தாற்றிச்
சீறிற் சிறுகும் திரு.
When the king doesn’t take counsel of his advisers,nand tends to explode with rage, his wealth starts imploding.

செருவந்த போழ்திற் சிறைசெய்யா வேந்தன்
வெருவந்து வெய்து கெடும்.
When the foes strike, a king who has not built his defences,nwill fall swiftly, trembling with fear.

கல்லார்ப் பிணிக்கும் கடுங்கோல் அதுவல்லது
இல்லை நிலக்குப் பொறை.
A tyrant will assemble an ensemble of the unlearned;nbut for them, there is no burden for the earth.
