“சுற்றந்தழால்” அதிகாரம் இந்தத் தலைப்பை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பத்து குறள்கள் மூலம் அதன் பொருள், பயன்பாடு, வாழ்வியல் முக்கியத்துவம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறது. பொருட்பாலில் வரும் இந்த அதிகாரம் சமூக வாழ்வு, அரசியல், தலைமை, நீதிநிலை, நட்பு, சொல், செயல் போன்ற நடைமுறை வாழ்க்கை நெறிகளை விளக்குகிறது. இந்த அதிகாரத்தின் தொடக்கக் குறள்கள் “பற்றற்ற கண்ணும் பழைமைபா ராட்டுதல்nசுற்றத்தார் கண்ணே உள.” போன்ற கருத்துகளால் தலைப்பின் பொருளை விரிவாக்குகின்றன.

Well-wishers who had broken with you before,nwill return if the cause for resentment is rectified.

உழைப்பிரிந்து காரணத்தின் வந்தானை வேந்தன்
இழைத் திருந்து எண்ணிக் கொளல்.
